Dewatering black liquor and lignin with supercritical CO2

چکیده
Black liquor, the residue remaining from pulping wood chips for papermaking, is used as fuel to power mill. For energy efficiency, black liquor must be concentrated over 65% solids prior combustion. Supercritical CO2 achieves this by precipitating lignin dropping pH below pKa of phenolic groups in lignin, thereby depositing and creating a porous liquid/solid matrix. It then displaces water matrix manner analogous dewatering materials such biomass, coal, sludge. Thus, supercritical performs dual role generating it. The amount removed far exceeds its solubility proportional boiling point rise liquor. This opens possibility replacing one or more stages multi-effect evaporator with unit. A similar approach applies deposited use biofuel chemical feedstock. Porosity appears control displacement process being facile open structures.

gasification (BBLG). One particularly harsh application is linings for gasifiers used in the treatment of black liquor (BL). Black liquor is a water solution of the non-cellulose portion of the wood (mainly lignin) and the spent pulping chemicals (Na2CO3, K2CO3, and Na2S). Development of new refractory materials for the black liquor gasification (BLG) application is a critical issue for imp...

Technical lignin, which can be potentially obtained in large amounts as a by-product from kraft pulping, represents a potential resource for manufacturing fuels and chemicals. Upgrading of lignin, by lowering its molecular weight, is a valuable alternative to precipitation from black liquor, which occurs in the Lignoboost process. The solubility properties of Lignoboost lignin and filtered lign...

Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (scCO2) is chosen to a treatment to remove lignin and to peel off outer cell wall layers to expose S2 layer of aspen wood fibres. The aim is to find an effective and environmentally friendly method to advance the fibrillation of the BCTMP pulp. The effects of the treatment are analysed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The chemicals used togeth...
متن کاملIonic Liquids and Supercritical CO2
Ionic liquids (ILs) are organic salts that have melting points around room temperature. They have received tremendous attention recently due to their low volatility and subsequent potential to reduce air pollution if used as replacements for volatile organic solvents. As a result, they have the potential to be used in a wide variety of chemical processing applications, including as solvents for...

Hemicelluloses dissolved in the pre-hydrolysis liquor (PHL) of kraftbased dissolving pulping processes can potentially be used to produce high value-added products such as fuel ethanol and xylitol. However, the isolation of lignin in PHL is a problem that remains unsolved and obstructs the utilization of those parts of hemicelluloses. Based on the principle of lignin isolation by acidification,...
